The Celtic Tenors

The Celtic Tenors . . .returned to The Stiefel Theatre in Salina and performed for a record breaking third time.  No act has performed there this many times, it's almost an annual thing now.  The fellas were glad to be back and they put on a superb show.

They began their first set with "Red Haired Mary" and followed that with the title track from their nearly new CD, "Feels Like Home".  Then the party really began.  There was the song, "Whiskey in the Jar", "Finnegans Wake", and their version of "Lay Down Sally" (made popular by Eric Clapton). The Celtic Tenors take on this song was a bit different.  They sang it slow and as they put it, sleazy.  As the song progressed from one verse to another, the singer changed, and so did the song.  The song began with the first verse sung like any other song (which Matthew Gilsenan sang), then the second verse which turned to flirting (Daryl Simpson sang this part and flirted with an audience member) and this transitioned into James Nelson finishing up the song by going into the audience and sitting on a woman's lap as he sang the third verse.

We heard a wide range of music: from traditional Irish tunes to folk to rock to opera.  Yes, opera and it was a delight.  The audience joined in on several numbers which is always a treat.  And of course, no Celtic Tenor show would be complete without their signature song, "Danny Boy" sung a ccapella.  This song always draws a standing ovation.

But the fun didn't stop then, because the Celtic Tenors hit the lobby to sign programs, CD's, photo's, etc. that people brought.  They hugged audience members, as well as talking to and taking photo's with fans.  Hopefully The Stiefel Theatre will have this group back soon.
